Initially pegged for release outside the states, the Goo Goo Dolls have decided to release their career retrospective domestically. While the international version is titled Ego, Opinion, Art & Commerce, the U.S. collection, coming May 29th, will be called, What I Learned About Ego, Opinion, Art & Commerce.
The disc spans the band's first thirteen years, offering remixed, remastered versions from their bad-hair, punk-rawk days ("Up Yours"), through softer acoustic ditties ("Two Days in February"). Also included, the Paul Westerberg-penned, "We Are the Normal," from 1993's Superstar Car Wash. The American pressing will replace mega-hit "Name" with the more obscure "Eyes Wide Open" from 1995's A Boy Named Goo.
In other Goos news, frontman Johnny Rzeznik has penned an as-yet-untitled ballad for Disney's forthcoming animated feature, Treasure Island. No official release has been set for the film or its soundtrack. The band will be heading into the studio this summer to record its seventh full-length and follow-up to 1998's hugely successful Dizzy Up the Girl. Longtime band collaborator Rob Cavallo, who oversaw the Ego remixes, will likely be retained to helm the new record.
