James Morrison

James Morrison Catchpole - he dropped his last name for his music career - broke big in 2006 with his debut album Undiscovered and breakthrough single You Give Me Something, premiered on Later With Jools Holland. His bluesey, rasping vocals mark him out from the crowd, and his blue-eyed soul brings to mind the retro sound of Paul Young, Stevie Wonder and other soulful pop types.
James hails from Cornwall, where he busked for many years before honing his sound at open mic nights. Polydor signed him on the strength of those and it turned out to be an inspired punt. James's distinctive vocals - stamped on his chords after a childhood bout of whooping cough - resonated around the world, and his second album Songs For You, Truths For Me carries on where Undiscovered left off: more guitar-led soulful pop with James's chiselled vocals carved into each.
